Susan B. AnthonY
On this date in 1820 American suffragist Susan B. Anthony was born in Adams, Mass.
Susan Brownell Anthony was born February 15,1820 in Adams Massachusetts to Daniel and Lucy Anthony. Her father, Daniel Anthony, was a stern man, a Quaker Abolitionist who believed in guiding his children, not directing them. He did not allow them to experience the childish amusements of toys, games, and music, which were seen as distractions from the inner light. Instead he enforced self-discipline, principled convictions, and belief in one's own self-worth.

Susan B. Anthony was a Quaker, teacher, temperance and abolition organizer, outstanding women's rights leader. She met Elizabeth Cady Stanton in 1850. Together they took sufferage petitions door-to-door, advocated equal pay for equal work, and encouraged more women to form unions.
But "more than any other suffrage leader, she was the victim of masculine ridicule" including satirical cartoons and newspaper attacks.

So you see my friends "cartoons" were employed as a fear-mongering tactic over a century ago.How they were "reacted" to..well I digress..that is an entirely different discussion..ahem..rant.
She was the driving force behind the National Woman Suffrage Association and became the internationally respected symbol of the woman's movement, "She has a broad and generous nature, and a depth of tenderness that few women possess" said Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
What many don't know is that she also attended a series of antislavery meetings ,devoted herself to the antislavery movement serving from 1856 to the outbreak of the civil war,1861. Here, she served as an agent for the American Anti-slavery Society.
It always gave me pause observing Rap music's unholy alliance with misogynism when the very roots of many anti-slavery campaigns were initiated not only by a woman..but a white woman.
Penny for your thoughts?

Angel,
Thanks for the post. I learned some new things about Susan B.
Rap music and the misery its underlying philosophies engender don't seem to be natural causes for anyone. The only explanation for the alliances we see is the thirst for power.
NOW and NARAL need the Democrats to win in order to get their people into powerful positions. The Democrats can't win without the black vote. You can't win the black vote by attacking rap music. Ergo, NOW and their sister organizations keep mum as best they can about rap.
