Woman Honor Thyself

When women are depressed, they either eat or go shopping. Men invade another country. It's a whole different way of thinking. --Elaine Boosler

ConsideR the CensoR

Cartoons which 'offend' may be the least of our problems when it comes to the "censorship" debate.

We are currently drowning in a tsunami of amorality. The adherence to traditional morality is long gone, and people fear Legislation in this arena more than they do societal ramifications and the consequences of a complete cultural breakdown.

In his book, "Slouching Towards Gomorrah"- Robert Bork states:"..ours is "a degenerate society," "enfeebled, hedonistic," "subpagan," and headed for "ultimate degradation" in "the coming of a new Dark Ages."
He suggests "law based on morality"and believed that society may properly set limits on "what may be shown said and sung." One of his pivotal chapters is titled "The Case for Censorship."

"Without censorship, it has proved impossible to maintain any standards of decency."(p.117)

The music industry has transitioned from celebrating wholesome songwriters and musicians to sexualizing young girls at the earliest possible age and unapologetically celebrating wanton sex.
Much of what passes for rock music celebrates nihilism and perversion.
Rappers oftentimes glorify criminal behavoir as gangsta and macho, while the half naked girls and women are relegated to writhe and slither around them and the stage.

Critics are oftentimes accused of bigotry if they intimate that this is destructive to popular culture. It would thus seem then that you think misogyny and violence are what define the average black male and hypersexual narcissim - the average black girl and woman.

Lyrics are inundated with curse words and have been so deeply ingrained that it is taken completely for granted.

Films which promote the purposeful degradation of morality are monumental successes -
Sadistic violence, homoerotic behavior and anything which promotes unbridled hedonism.

Televison ads overwhelmingly target children and adolescents, who are estimated to watch more than 40,000 television commercials per year.

"Because younger children do not understand persuasive intent in advertising, they are easy targets for commercial persuasion,” said psychologist Brian Wilcox, Ph.D., Professor of Psychology and Director of the Center on Children, Families and the Law at the University of Nebraska and chair of the task force."
American Psychological Association

Turning off televsions, limiting children's access to the Internet, trying to monitor music which is downloaded are solutions touted but as we all know......There are video screens in malls everywhere, in waiting room offices, billboards are thrust in our faces, magazine stands display what could pass for pornography on city streets.

Perhaps you should consider the state or federal government's responsibilty in this after all.
The all powerful judiciary should be reined in.
It is every individual's moral obligation to force the government's hand with respect to the judiciary, which has all but removed the ability of individual communities to set social standards- specifically against pornography.

Some degree of censorship may frighten many-
but if the alternative is allowing the current decadent, secularist trend to keep diluting and destroying every known value our Country was founded upon...
We may just find ourselves in a place where even censorship may no be a possible strategy:
Moral Oblivion.

You hit he nail on the head with this one. Liberalism is no longer a political philosophy that give balance to conservatism. Liberalism is now defined as libertine- a life of selfishness, and self fullfillilng pelasure. We are turning into a society lacking in culture and morals and deescending into immorality. Does Sodom and Gomorah ring a bell?

It'd be A Very Good Thing were the American populace to become both literate enough to understand and well-read enough to have actually _read_ the Constitution and other Founding documents of this country.

The First Amendment, for example does NOT espouse "freedom of expression"—several of the Founders were very clear about that exact thing in the discussions that led to the ratification of the First Amendment. And the guarantee of Freedom of Speech outlined there specifically dealt with political speech. Not a cricifix in a jar of urine or a display of "the vagina dialogues/monologues" (whatever) or ANYTHING claiming to be "art" or "speech" that is 1.) Not actual, you know, _SPEECH_ and 2.) political

The further guarantees of freedom of assembly and freedom to _practice_ one's religion are also clear. To literate folk who have actually read the Founders.

"Amending" the Constitution by changing what the words mean is a game of liars' poker. We need to call the liars' bluffs and return to a Constitutional federal government...

Censorship can be good. Especially when it reflects attempts to raise the level of public discourse. Careful though. Pseudo-victorian bowdlerization of society is also a danger.

This problem began sometime after 1964 when the courts took God out of the classroom. The next blow happened when a large section of our society was paid to have children out of wedlock. Finally, other courts took parental jurisdiction away and gave schools ultimate voice in what, when and where our children will be taught morality. It is not all relative!

I get nervous about censorship, but I think it's interesting how the more censor ideas (PC), the less we censor the obscene.

Censorship I think is the problem. Without parents teaching their children about the human body, then no proper censorship will be enough. Parents stopped being parents after 1964. Schools may have stopped teaching what they should after 1964. In the year of 2006, they are not hardly teaching what the students should be larning.

Ignorance causes immorality not knowledge. The bad words that we use are not even in the English Dictionary. Vocabulary shows intelligence. In the history of the bad words we use, came from the Anglo-Saxsons were illiterate. They used the same bad words we use. The majority of the USA are illiterate.

We constantly bash the goverenment of our country, but we are the ones that vote for them in office. The USA Constitution sates: "WE THE PEOPLE. . ." We should be the ones to control what our children should see. This is not cnesorship. It is parenthood.

One we start blaming ourselves for our own problem, then we will find the right solution to whatever the problem is about. In anything in life remember this:

    Make
    It
    Simple
    Stupid

    Keep
    It
    Simple
    Stupid

Once we live our own lives in the way we should, then we will be able to make the right decisions in our lives.
