US President George Bush yesterday labelled Iran a "grave national security concern" as its leader, Mahmoud Ahma-dinejad, had stated a desire to destroy Israel.

Over 2,000 years ago, the Holy Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed by the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar. The Jewish people were then exiled from Israel and coerced to live in Babylonia.

Fifty years later, Babylonia was defeated by Persia.(Iran) Achashverosh was the second Persian king. He ruled 127 provinces from Hodu (India) to Kush (Africa) the largest, strongest kingdom in the world.

Haman, the king's top advisor, obtains a decree to have all the Jews destroyed.

"On the 13th day of the month of Adar," the decree said "you are to destroy, kill and slaughter all Jews, young and old, women and children, all in one day. Their money and property will then belong to you."

In the end, however, through a complex twist of events, Esther the Jewess and her pious uncle Mordechai get the decree reversed, Haman is hanged on the gallows, and Mordechai becomes Prime Minister.

Purim, Judaism's most dramatic, fun-filled dress up holiday where children and adults alike don costumes is celebrated this Tuesday with festivity and rejoicing, sharing and sending food to friends (I hear where there's Jews, there's food ..heh), and giving gifts to the poor.

A biblical scroll known as the "Megillah" is read in all synagogues recounting how a seemingly unrelated series of events spun together to save the Jewish people from annihilation.

And here we are.

"Iran now has the materials to make up to ten nuclear weapons, the U.S. envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency told a closed-door meeting in Vienna yesterday.

..Just how serious is this latest Iranian threat? Should Americans be worried, or --well, laughing? Does the Islamic Republic of Iran have serious military capabilities that could do damage to a nation wielding the world’s most devastating and precise military machine? Or is this just bluster from a desperate coterie of turbaned tyrants?"

Well, sweet readers, the names are really interchangeable...

Iran - Persia

Ahma-dinejad - Achashverosh, Haman

There's only one hitch: The Iran hate machine is churning out daily battle cries for the annihilation not only of the Jewish people this time...

"..Iran’s IAEA delegation said in a statement released yesterday. “But the United States is also susceptible to harm and pain. So if that is the path that the U.S. wishes to choose, let the ball roll.”

Let the ball roll eh?...You nervous?...You should be.

Israel's Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz reminds us what our heroes are made of.

"Mofaz, who met in Germany with state officials, including the defense and foreign ministers,
states.. "the State of Israel has many drawers, containing all it needs in order to defend our citizens.... the State of Israel and the Jewish people will never again face a situation in which our existence is being threatened."

Well, my friends...while the world sits by banking on "diplomatic solutions" with maniacal madmen...

And guess who's been rumoured to have 'stepped up to the plate'...
that tiny little country known as "ISRAEL".
