AmericanS in the HoT SeaT

America, the Global Target

"Hoping to lower tensions between the Mus-lim world and the West, British Prime Minister Tony Blair maintained the other day that the world confronts "a clash about civilization," not "a clash between civilizations." But the overriding lesson of events since Sept. 11, 2001, may be that you can't have one without the other.

In radical Isl-amic propaganda, the United States has graduated from being a mere Great Satan out to undermine Iran's ayatollahs to being depicted as a global monster responsible for virtually every crime and failing since the dawn of modern history. Meet the new Jews: the Americans.

Don't misunderstand. Americans have not replaced Jews at the top of the hate parade in Is-lamic countries. But the history of anti-Semitism, a word coined in Germany to provide a bogus scientific basis for prejudice against Jews, and its spread in recent years across the Middle East as an all-purpose explanation of whatever is wrong, should give Americans no cause for complacency.

The centrality of American power to global change -- good and bad, economic and political, topsy and turvy -- inevitably carries with it a heavy burden abroad of resentment and opposition. In the wake of Sept. 11 and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, a widespread stereotyping and a visceral hatred that imputes racial characteristics to national policies and actions have also taken hold.

The distemper of these global times can be read in a wide variety of settings, where this new virulent anti-Americanism competes with historical anti-Semitism as a single explanation for the failures and delusions of entire nations..

Second, Americans need to recognize that the problems we face in the Middle East are bigger than the failings or mistakes of Bush & Co. Those problems would not fade quickly if U.S. troops left Iraq tomorrow."

Hatred.
Someone commits a hate crime every hour in the good ole U.S.A.and at least three Jews become hate crime victims.
American history is rife with prejudice against groups and individuals because of their race, including Blacks as well as Jews...However, the 20th century witnessed tremendous progress in outlawing discrimination, and nowadays most upstanding Americans are against any form of bigotry.

But "hate groups" such as Izlamofacists haven't caught up with the times. They must produce stereotypes, the evil Jew, the arrogant American, to justify their unequal treatment, terror and to maintain an atmosphere of rage among their people.
At different times in history hate wore different faces...Today the Jew and the American have earned the spotlight.
The murderous Izlamofacists and the PC-dominated left wing groups who appease these enemies and publicly defame our soldiers, now unite.

Acceptance of differences and tolerance of others , however is human choice. It stems from a deep rooted belief that all people are valuable, that no one is inherently less than another. Not exactly consistent with Izlamofacist indoctrination now is it?

Tony Blair maintained the other day that the world confronts "a clash about civilization,"...
The left wingers are nothing but a poor blend of fascist, Communist, and socialist ideologies ..Couple that with empathy for Izlmofacists...and there is no longer "civilization".

I was more bothered by Tony Blair's ascertation that the Koran was a progressive document one ahead of its time. Here is an excerpt from his speech.

"The most remarkable thing about reading the Koran - in so far as it can be truly translated from the original Arabic - is to understand how progressive it is. I speak with great diffidence and humility as a member of another faith. I am not qualified to make any judgements.

But as an outsider, the Koran strikes me as a reforming book, trying to return Judaism and Christianity to their origins, rather as reformers attempted with the Christian Church centuries later. It is inclusive. It extols science and knowledge and abhors superstition. It is practical and way ahead of its time in attitudes to marriage, women and governance.

Under its guidance, the spread of Islam and its dominance over previously Christian or pagan lands was breathtaking. Over centuries it founded an Empire, leading the world in discovery, art and culture. The standard bearers of tolerance in the early Middle Ages were far more likely to be found in Muslim lands than in Christian

    hmmm...

I understand your point about bigotry having no place in America but I will be honest with you. I think the followers of Islam represent the formation of a fifth column here in the United States and I would have no problem is mass exportations were to take place reuniting the followers of Allah with their countries of origin. Very few have made themselves good neighbors.

Islam is nothing but a death cult. Attempts to appease will end in miserable failure and the loss of innocent lives. We've seen this before, down the many long corridors of history.

I am afraid that America is the Great Satan of our time. It seems our liberty allows the deceiver to take control. I am not quite sure how that happened. I hope that the people of this generation are wise enough to attempt to regain control. Many conservatives give me hope that we will regain civilization but too many follow the false hope offered by the libertarians who are conservative anarchists.

America is blamed for many reasons; one is simple jealousy. People in other countries generally pay more tax, have worse health care, and have less freedom all around. What to do? Let's do what the newspapers tell us to do -- hate America and hate Israel! Of course, doing that doesn't fix the problems surrounding these people, but the momentary rant makes them feel better. This technique is pushed by the press from France to Saudi Arabia. Another reason America is blamed is slothful journalism. Reading any mainstream media publication provides more than enough evidence of that. Finally, America is blamed because of the powerlessness felt by people in countries who are themselves powerless. The Europeans, for instance, have watched their empires shrivel and tear asunder, while America keeps going strong.

America is not hated as much as you think.

But to a degree all great powers are hated because of jealousy and envy - but also because great powers will tend to have an impact on those around them.

I guess the Romans, British and Zulu's were not very popular at the height of their power either.

And in the same vein, Switzerland, Monaco and Pitcairn Island don't have the required impact and influence to produce the same hate.

As for Blair, he obviously hasn't read the Koran, or is just pandering the the Muslim vote and threat of potential rioting and civil disobedience that exists in the Uk and europe.

Honor, the reasons for anti-Americanism are primarily the organized mob that make up the left, including the media. Every opportunity to show America as a bully or as morally bankrupt is taken to forge that perception. Our own media participates.

Islam has become a problem because of the leftists, who use coalitions of immigrants, minorities and leftists (including unaware or willing liberals)in their own campaigns against US and Western values. These leftist coalitions have become a still somewhat hidden, but major problem in Europe and is fast becoming one everywhere. They seek to limit and place state control over free speech and association rights and use the coalition to bully the patriotic citizens into submission.

Without freedoms one is a dhimmi, whether it is to Islam or to the left. American liberals, moderates and conservatives need to realize that when our freedom to state what we believe is taken from us, NONE of us will be free.

If you loose the national and international media (which you are doing now) political pressure in your government may change its hard-line policy and that's what the islamofascists want...

I recomend to everyone of you, including the American troops fighting in Iraq and Afganistan (especially the troops) to read the latest book of Steven Pressfield: "The Afgan Campaign" it tells a story of a Greek soldier more than 2300 years old, which could actually be the story of an American soldier today!!

Hatred has always been aimed at the Jew. In 1492, they were kicked out of Spain and throughout the Middle Ages they were forced to love in ghettos. But Hitler had another idea--the Jew was not free to LIVE anywhere! When he saw that his approach to the Jews was not condemned by the rest of the world,( Remember that boatload of Jewish immigrants who went from country to country, hoping someone would take them in and finally sailing back to Germany and death?) he went on his bloody rampage. This is what they are fighting today--the right to live in their own country, a country which was guaranteed them after WWII. As a friend of Israel, America comes under attack as a "Jew lover." God grant us the backbone to maintain our support for this fair and democratic land located in a hostile sea of ignorance and brutality. It's about survival--the survival of a free people to work for a better life and a brighter future for their children! This is our fight too!

That's unfortunate and even somewhat surprising that Tony Blair would say that, considering how resolute he'd been in alligning Brittain with the U.S. in Afghanistan and Iraq.

In virtually every conflict in the world today, the Islamists are involved. In the Balkans it's the Albanian Muslims (who first engaged in genocide in that region) versus the Christian Croats & Serbs, in Kashmir it's Muslims versus Hindus, in the Sudan and much of the rest of Africa it's muslims against the native African non-Muslims, in the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia, it's the Muslims versus Christians and in the Mideast it's long been the Muslims seeking to eradicate the Christians and Jews from their midst.

Sharia-based Islam is indeed a cult of death and it must be confronted, not cajoled.

It's sad, given all of England's "Muslim problem," that Tony Blair doesn't seem to see that.

I see a lot simple, black and white thinking going on her by a lot of very scared people. I'm not asking anybody to agree with me, but just to consider this: why do people in the Middle-East (or anywhere) hate America? Is it something that started with the USA or is it something that goes back centuries and centers on the actions of the West? Did decades of supporting brutal regimes such as the Saudis, the Shah of Iran, and yes, Saddam Hussein, as well as many others not contribute to the hatred instilled in a number of people? For the record, no one should ever blame the people of this country for the actions of its government--though maybe we should ask questions of our leaders and not just say "Well, he is the president..." Also, someone called Islam a cult and a violent religion. Yes, there may be some truth to that. But, there are groups within Christianity and Judaism that are not known for their peacefulness. Also, look at it this way Islam is 1300 years old. Where was Christianity at 1300?

We need more careful thought and less certainty--which I think many here mistake for absolute fear.

Minnesota asked: "I see a lot simple, black and white thinking going on her by a lot of very scared people."

It looks like accurate thinking, really.

"I'm not asking anybody to agree with me, but just to consider this: why do people in the Middle-East (or anywhere) hate America?"

The main reason is that they hate us for our freedom. Muslim terrorirsts want to force everyone to live under Islam, and they hate the idea that there is religious freedom in the free world, and that the US tends to support such freedom elsewhere. They also want to exterminate the Jews, and the US is one major factor standing in the way of this.

"Is it something that started with the USA or is it something that goes back centuries and centers on the actions of the West?"

It goes back centuries to the founding of Islam. It is a rather intolerant faith. Consider that Muhammad ordered the large Jewish population in Saudi Arabia to be slaughtered. To this day, it is pretty much illegal to be Jewish there. Other faiths are also frowned upon.

"Did decades of supporting brutal regimes such as the Saudis, the Shah of Iran, and yes, Saddam Hussein"

The Saudi regime is less brutal than the opponents it fights against. Iranians for a long time have looked back on the Shah years as years of peace and tolerance. The US support for Saddam Hussein was very brief and minor, and is insiginificant compared to the long years of the US pressuring and opposing Saddam Hussein.

"though maybe we should ask questions of our leaders and not just say "Well, he is the president...""

Especially now, when we have a President who is doing so many of the wrong things.

"Also, look at it this way Islam is 1300 years old. Where was Christianity at 1300?"

So, what you are saying is that Islam is at the horrific genocidal mass-murdering phase now, which Christianity was at in 1300 AD. Makes sense.

"We need more careful thought and less certainty--which I think many here mistake for absolute fear."

"Careful thought" would have meant that you would not have made the statements about Iran, Saddam, etc.

Why wouldn't the rest of the world hate us when all our own journalists do is say how awful we are and our President announces that he is going to "remake" our country. Maybe it's just me, but remaking has always been about throwing out what you have and starting over. If somebody was inclined to hate us for whatever reason, hearing our President say we need to be remade certainly doesn't help the situation.

"Is it something that started with the USA or is it something that goes back centuries and centers on the actions of the West?"

    It's neither.

"Did decades of supporting brutal regimes such as the Saudis, the Shah of Iran, and yes, Saddam Hussein"

The US opposed Saddam. Iran? The Shah was much less brutal than the theocrats who followed. By supporting the Shah, the US helped Iran keep the terrorist regime from keeping power for a long time.

Hating the US for "supporting Saddam" is an example of ignorance; hatred for the US for something it did not do.

Europe is being taken by islamists from the "outside" whereas America is being destroyed on the sly from the inside.
